About Muskallonge Lake State Park

Muskallonge Lake State Park occupies a narrow strip of land between two very different shorelines: warm, calm Muskallonge Lake on one side and rugged, cold Lake Superior on the other. That unusual geography gives campers a genuine choice each day — swim in the inland lake's gentler water or walk a short distance to Lake Superior's open shore, agate-hunting beaches, and big-lake views.

The modern campground offers 172 electric sites spread between the two shorelines. Muskallonge's remote location in Luce County, well off the main UP tourist corridors, also makes it one of the better spots in the state for stargazing on clear nights, with minimal light pollution.

Heads up: This is a remote park — the nearest town, Newberry, is about 20 miles away, so plan groceries and supplies before you arrive.
Local tip: Walk the Lake Superior side of the park at dusk for agate hunting and dramatic big-lake sunsets, then retreat to Muskallonge Lake's calmer water for swimming during the day.
