About Warren Dunes State Park
Warren Dunes State Park in southwest Michigan is home to some of the tallest sand dunes in the Midwest — Tower Hill rises 240 feet above Lake Michigan and is one of the most exhilarating natural features in the entire state. Climbers hike to the top and run or roll back down. Hang gliders launch from the dunes on windy days.
The park sits near the Indiana border and draws enormous crowds from Chicago, South Bend, and the greater Midwest. It is one of the most visited state parks in Michigan and one of the most difficult to book. The dunes, swimming beach, and proximity to the Chicago metro make it perennially oversubscribed.

Booking Tips & Demand
Warren Dunes is one of the hardest parks to book in Michigan because of its proximity to the Chicago metro area. Millions of people within a few hours drive means competition is intense, especially for summer weekends and holiday weekends.
Booking window: 6 months before check-in, opens at 8:00 AM Eastern on weekdays, 9:00 AM on weekends.
Best strategy: Book at exactly the 6-month window for any summer weekend. Weekdays in July and August are difficult too. September is significantly easier and the dunes and beach are still excellent. CampDrop alerts catch the many cancellations that happen here.
