When to Book Your Spring & Summer 2027 Michigan Campsite

Michigan releases every campsite exactly six months before arrival. If you want a site for Memorial Day or the Fourth of July, the booking window opens months earlier than you'd think — here's the exact schedule.

Michigan doesn't release next season's campsites all at once. MiDNRReservations.com runs on a rolling 6-month window — every date becomes bookable exactly six months before it arrives, down to the day. That means the booking window for a lot of 2027's best weekends is already open right now, and the rest opens on a predictable schedule between now and next spring.

How the 6-Month Window Actually Works

Reservations open exactly six months to the date before arrival — not on the first of the month, not in a batch. A campsite for March 22, 2027 became bookable on September 22, 2026. A site for July 4, 2027 won't open until January 4, 2027. New inventory drops at 8am Eastern on weekdays and 9am Eastern on weekends, and it goes fast at the parks that matter most — Ludington, Wilderness, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the Upper Peninsula icons can sell out within minutes of their window opening for a holiday weekend.

Good to Know

The release time follows the day the window opens, not the day you're trying to book. If the date exactly six months before your target arrival falls on a Saturday or Sunday, inventory drops at 9am ET instead of 8am.

Your 2027 Booking Calendar

Here's when each major stretch of the 2027 season actually opens for booking:

Early Spring (Mar 22 – Apr 15, 2027)
Booking window: open now through Oct 15, 2026
This window is live right now. If you want an early-season site before the summer crowds arrive, don't wait on this one.
Spring & Mid-Spring (May 1 & May 15, 2027)
Booking opens: November 2026
Both May windows land in the same booking month. Set a reminder for early November so you're not scrambling.
Memorial Day Weekend 2027
Booking opens: late November 2026
One of the two or three hardest weekends of the year to book a Michigan state park. Know the date and be ready.
Fourth of July Week 2027
Booking opens: January 4, 2027
Michigan's single most competitive week. It's still three months out, but it will come up fast — mark the date now.

What It Actually Costs

Booking online through MiDNRReservations.com costs $8 per reservation; calling the reservation center instead costs $10. Both fees are non-refundable. If your plans change, modifying or cancelling a reservation costs a flat $10, plus a reduced-stay fee on a sliding scale — as little as 10% of the unused nights if you cancel more than two months out, up to 40% if you wait until the final weeks. You can't modify or cancel a reservation at all once you're within five months of arrival, so build flexibility into your plans before you book, not after.

If Your Window Already Passed You By

Missed the exact minute a popular weekend opened? It's not over. Cancellations happen constantly on MiDNRReservations.com, especially once a reservation's own cancellation window closes and campers who overbooked start releasing nights they won't use.
